24 days….

December 11th, 2015 by Trent

…..until we leave Australia and travel to Bali to have a year adventure!!! It is now so close! We have rented out our house, sold the car and the kids finish school next Wednesday. We are selling bits and pieces on Facebook mainly and giving lots of things to charity too.

We have a bali specific blog called www.ouryearinbali.com so that is where all the posts will be in 2016.

It is still very hard to believe that we are doing this! I finish up work on the 23rd December. It will be sad as I have been there for nearly 4 years and have gone through so much but very excited to be spending more time with the kids and their new Australian International school. This year time management and work/life balance was not existent whatsoever!!!

Tomorrow we are having a going away picnic with friends at Centennial Park. I remember talking about this 6 months ago and now it is tomorrow!!!

We will be here for both our mum’s birthday and New Year and then we fly off early Jan so not sure when the next entry will be and if I will be writing it from Bali – I guess so!

This year has been a blur!

November 3rd, 2015 by Trent

It has been a while because I was caught up working crazy hours for a project I did for Waverley Council called Eat, Pray, Naches:Jewish Community Stories. It is about documenting post-War jewish immigrants and their families that settled in the local area. The website is www.epn.org.au

It was definitely a labour of love and I have never worked that hard in my entire life!! I worked from 3 days a week to 7 days a week – often 14 hour days but it was worth the immense amount of time. I produced a travelling exhibition, amazing interactive and educational website and lots of public programs. The exhibition will now travel to other community groups. I also travelled recently to Perth to present at the Biannual National Oral History Conference too.

During this busy time, Trent and I have been organising a very special family adventure – 2016 will be spent in Bali!

We broke the exciting news to the kids at the end of June and they were very happy!

In early August, Trent went to Bali to check out some of the schools and villas.

We have settled on the Australian International School located in Seminyak. We have a villa for the first 5 weeks and then hope to find a nice place near the school. We leave on the 5th January 2016!

We have just finished Halloween for another year and today was the first day the house was open for inspection – lots of cleaning and decluttering – selling kids bikes etc

Fingers crossed it all goes well and we get the weekly rental price we are asking for. Then next will be selling the family car!

The kids are doing well in Term 4. Cant believe we are in week 5 already! 5 weeks to go and the year is over! Liam enjoyed two weeks of swim school and Demi loves her teacher. In fact, today she gave her teacher a gorgeous thank you card.

I can now work 2 days a week and have a much better work life balance – for example today I got to volunteer for Demi’s reading class and for the last 2 weeks I am going to a new gym (F45) and doing yoga twice a week 🙂

So it is now 9 weeks till we go to Bali!

Wish us luck!

News flash – Demi just lost her 4th tooth! She was super excited and write a lovely card to the tooth fairy this evening. I believe she exchanged her tooth for $4.

Rain, Hail or Shine

April 26th, 2015 by Trent

Over the last week Sydney has seen some crazy weather!
Record weather that hasnt been that bad in 10 years. Storms, winds and rain like you have never see before!
Yesterday was an example of crazy weather! I took the kids the bike track in the morning. It was so hot I wore a tshrt and jeans. Demi actually got sunburnt on her chest – sunglasses and all!

At about 5pm all changed! A storm came, then rain and then HAIL, so much HAIL it went on for about 20 minutes non stop!
The kids were a bit frightened and Demi screamed!

After it was all over we actually enjoyed the crazy wonderland our backyard had changed into. It looked like snow and the kids had a ball! There was ice everywhere! They jumped on the trampoline which was covered in ice too!
A very memorable evening….

Demi and her first tooth fairy visit

April 10th, 2015 by Trent

Tonight Demi lost her first tooth – she was wanting this night to happen for a very long time!!!

She lost the same bottom tooth Liam lost when he had his first visit from the tooth fairy just a month after his 5th birthday.

Demi wrote a gorgeous letter and has left her tooth in a special tooth fairy container she got from Booba a very few years ago.

She cant wait to wake up tomorrow and see what the tooth fairy left.

I think it will be a letter and so money!
